memoirs of geisha
not a bad show. i think i like it.

the show was beautifully filmed. very nice screen shots. the colours are very vibrant, and quite a few scenes are captured very skillfully. i like one scene when chiyo was powdering herself. focused on the flying powders at first, then zoom to the brush, and then the camera shifted left to chiyo powdering herself. very nice scene, i feel.

the dance wasn't that fantastic though. i read from some reviews that the critic was quite absorbed by the dance, but i was quite indifferent.
the story was okay though. no climax. but still interesting. i dun really find it boring even though there wasn't a really clear climax.
i like the dialogue on the eel and the cave. quite farnie. but it wld have been better if they kept it a little bit more subtle without the mentioning of "guy" and "girl". also, after the war, pumpkin suddenly developed american slang. hahahaha... damn farnie.

i oso like the little girl that cast as young chiyo. she is really quite pretty, and has a very nice pair of eyes. she will definitely grow up to be a beautiful woman.

the show is largely about the war between women though. i was at first, before the show, thinking that it will be zhang ziyi or sayuri, that takes pains and fight for herself to step up to the position of geisha. but in the end, it turns up that she was more of a puppet. not exactly a puppet, but she was juz following orders, and was simply lucky.

all in all, i like the show. 2 hrs and 20 mins. is the kinda show that shld be caught in a cinema theatre. football hooligan can watch at home though. football hooligan is juz exciting, nothing much for you to catch in terms of effects and stuffs.
