Xie Min

Xie Min Posted by Hello

Yeah, like i said on the previous post, i will post a picture of my lecturer. He is an incredible person lor... he TOPPED china in an examination at the age of 14. not the normal academic exams... itz an exams for prodigies like him... after beating every single one of his counterparts in the first round of exams, he went straight to university. after which, he progressed quickly, and received his doctorate degree at the age of 23.

yeah, i m 23 this year too.

http://www.ise.nus.edu.sg/staff/xiemin/

thatz his website. take a look at this monster if u have the time.

k. time to go back to my tutorials and notes again.... freaking stressed out liaoz...

stressed!?

haven't been touching this blog much. partly cos workload is starting to come in liaoz. projects, tutorials, hmwork assignments... haiiz. soon midterm will be coming. partly because i normally dun really wanna post at home cos dial up is slow, and in school post entry like a waste of time. but then, come again, i've been wasting lotsa time in school being not able to focus.

been reading textbooks... in like 3 weeks, i've already read like 500 pages of stuffs? textbooks and notes included though... seems like a lot, but i've not been able to concentrate and focus leh... si bei jiat lat... haven't even touch on my java. haiiz... seems like i m a little bit burnt out liaoz.

not enuff time to do all the things i want.

not being focus is one factor contributing to the lack of time phenomenon though. efficiency not there.

read on someone's blog that japan seems to have come out a design for earthquake bed. hmmm... that sounds decent for my human factors engineering project.

CNY seems to be coming... but i dunnoe when's it. come oso lidat.

next entry, i shall post a picture of a prodigy. my lecturer, xie min.

a wasted day...

cool!! i've not done much studying for the past 3 whole days!! super slack... think i m getting myself into trouble man if i still allow myself to be so slack... jiat lat. am i turning back to my sec/jc slackness?? no no...

but well, i m happy. happy with a few things.

- happy with a few days of slack life.
- happy with watching lotsa tv today (or rather, yesterday since itz passed mn)
- happy with finding , theme song of "Searching for my Polestar" (my fav jap show for last year bah... and thanks to huiping for telling me the name of the song)
- happy with meeting up with jiayin on friday, and with the workshop with consonance
- and happy with many other reasons ;)

anyway, must keep reminding myself to whack liaoz... i've been procrastinating a lot of things. haven't started full force into reading java, haven't type out the things ben asked me to, haven't study enuff ahead for my modules to spare time for java reading, haven't spare time to think more abt consonance etc.... jiat lat jiat lat...

time time time, i need them for many things!!!

long time never post liaoz

wooo~~ have been pretty busy. school is picking up, and i m trying hard to make my gears going. haven't been able to really concentrate, but wellz, i think itz still a pretty decent start bah. next week is the starting of week 3 liaoz, and itz time to whack all the tutorials out liaoz.

have to find time to study java too... haven't started. sianz... haiizz...

today's haji, and i basically slacked around quite a bit. never really study. sianz.... feeling guilty. but nmd... shld take a little break at times too lah huh?

met up with jiayin and tim and the rest of the girls. to those who felt that i was quiet, dun worry. i enjoyed myself. i never talk doesn't mean there are things that are bothering me or smthing. and i m glad to see jiayin being fine and jumpy as always. hee =)

oh, and i promised chai heng, to make a "public" apology to him, for forgetting to sms him on his on bday =( late one day then realised. sianz.... bad bad me. so okay lah, here u are,

i m sorry. =P

lastly.... blardee bimlesh, arranged a make up lecture... make me have to go to school at 8am on sat, after which i will be having a long workshop at consonance. haiiz... oso dun need to study on sat liaoz... *yawnz*

okay, i shall sleep liaoz. nitezzz....

p.s: yanhong, if u still reading this blog, pls remember to remind me abt ur performance at esplanade. as for gek, charm, maria etc etc, remind me abt clara's performance too. thanks.

天体观测

天体观测

Above is a nice show that i've been watching recently, even when i was having my sem 2 exams. sadly, today is it's last episode. sianz.... very nice show... and i love the theme music. gotta go find out whatz the song title and download it off somewhere.

anyway, today's theme is more or less abt "moving on".

somehow, recently things that are happening around me seems to inter-related to each other. juz yesterday, a friend told me she is leaving a grp that she's been in for 10 years. wasn't exactly surprised, cos she did give some clues before she actually leaves. she mentioned that she has been rather unhappy with how certain things are happening, and how certain pple do things, and felt that having place the group in her priority for the past 10 years, she felt that itz time to move on.

coincidental huh?

prior to all these, i had a talk with kx, and during the conversation, i mentioned smthing like "singing in jc has been one of my happiest time". her reply was "no point clinging to the past. we all need to move on".

yupz. i totally agree with her. actually, i dun mean i m still living in the past when i mention singing in jc has been my happiest time. itz just a statement, and a fact. i mean, memories is what that makes up a person, isn't it? well, at least thatz my opinion bah.

however, my point to add is, while we do keep memories, we shld always embrace the future. by saying this, i mean to pple in consonance. i mean, i believe everyone enjoyed our time a lot in nyjc choir. in setting up alumni, thatz was exactly one big part of my reasons. however, having gone thru so much to today, i personally feel that everyone of us really does need to move on. jc times are jc times. we shld not forget the past, but neither shld we juz stay in the past. i hope to make new memories with everyone else in consonance, working together with many pple and projects. of cos, i wld love to continue to have collaborations with nyjc, and absorb new bloods mainly from there, as consonance is really a nyjc alumni choir to me.

i actually dunnoe how to put what i really want to say in words.... but in short, i hope everyone will be able to move out of the past and carry on to the future, weaving fantastic memories like u all have done in the past.

dunnoe what to write for title....

had a pretty long sharing session with maria and emelyne and deqiang. cool! felt that itz a good sharing session, and i get to see and know some of their worries, and me and deqiang get to address certain issues to them too! i guess itz beneficial for both parties, and i'm glad to have had the chance to talk to them =)

anyway, the person who asked me weird weird things (look for previous posts) told me certain things liaoz. i've guessed correctly though. haha... now waiting to see whatz the person's next action bah. =P

and, this noon, have a meeting again, and the new comm is up. i m offically consonance's advisor liaoz. hope to have a good working time with the new comm!! =)

and oh, i m hungry now~~~

shack sem ahead siah...

end of the first week of the sem... more or less able to gauge this sem's toughness and workload liaoz

preliminary results: this isn't going to be a smooth-sailing sem siah!!!

freaking hell.... at first tot taking 5 modules can relax relax a bit... who know things turn out otherwise? for 5 modules, i'll be having 7 midterms. i heard one of my modules have like 4 projects by itself, and together with the other 2 modules with a project each, that amounts to 6 projects. shiok!!

then i juz roughly read thru the prob model notes... jiat lat... forget everything from ST2131... shack man. gotta use quite a bulk of what i've learnt in ST2131, and guess that means i have to grab those notes and revise them all over again. luckily i build a decent foundation for it last sem man...

and then here comes CS2103. the greatest fear has come true. i need to code the damn project in JAVA. WTF!! dunnoe why i learn CS1101c and CS1102c in C/C++ for what siah... blardee hell... what a cock system nus engine is having for ISE man... i wld rather spent my CS1102 in JAVA. i guess i wld send an email to my mentor Chew Ee Peng regarding this matter. see if he can do anything.

shiok siah.... 5 modules like 7 modules, with tons of midterms and projects waiting for me. think i will start whacking full force next mon onwards.

(yeah, i know i m complaining like f***, but wellz, i m a human too. i need a place to vent some frustration too. kaoz, otherwise u think i really 神 meh? ni na beh... "神"经病的 "神“ lah....)

The 7 Principles of Engineering Economy

What are the Principles of Engineering Economy?

1. Develop the Alternatives
2. Focus on the Differences
3. Use a Consistent Viewpoint
4. Use a Common Unit of Measure
5. Consider all Relevent Criteria
6. Make Uncertainty Explicit
7. Revisist your Decisions

wtf... i m learning all these crap man...

Classical Brainstorming: It is the most well-known and often-used technique for idea generation, It is based on the fundamental princples of deferment of judgement and that quanitity breeds quality. There are four rules for successful brainstorming:
1. Criticism is ruled out
2. Freewheeling is welcomed
3. Quantity is wanted
4. Combination and improvement are sought

A. F. Osborn lays out a detailed procedure for successful brainstorming. A classical brainstorming session has the following basic steps:
1. Preparation. The participants are selected, and a preliminary statement of the problem is circulated.
2. Brainstorming. A warm-up session with simple unrelated problems is conducted, the relevant problem and the four rules of brainstorming are presented, and ideas are generated and recorded using checklists and other techniques if necessary.
3. Evaluation. This ideas are evaluated relative to the problem.

Nominal Group Techniques: The Nominal Group Techniques (NGT), developed by Andre P. Delbecq and Andrew H. Van de Ven, involves a structured group meeting designed to incorporate individual ideas and judgements into a group consensus. By correctly applying the NGT, it is possible for groups of people (preferably, 5 to 10) to generate investments alternatives or other ideas for improving the competitiveness of the firm. Indeed, the techniques can be used to obtain group thinking (consensus) on a wide range of topics. For example, a question that might be given to the group is, "What are the most important problems or opportunities for improvement of...?"

The technique, when properly applied, draws on the creativity of the individual participants, while reducing two undesirable effects of most group meetings: (a) the dominance of one or more participants and (b) the suppression of conflicting ideas. The basic format of an NGT session is as follows:

1. Individual silenet generation of ideas
2. Individual round-robin feedback and recording of ideas
3. Group clarification of each idea
4. Individual voting and ranking to prioritise ideas
5. Discussion of group consensus results

The NGT session begins with an explanation of the procedure and a statement of question(s), preferably written by the facilitator. The group members are theen asked to prepare individual listings of alternatives, such as investment ideas or issues that they feel are crucial for the survival and health of the organisation. This is known as the silent-generation phase and usually takes only a few minutes to "get the thoughts rolling." After this phase has been completed, the facilitator calls on each participant, in round-robin fashion, to present one idea from this or her list (or further thoughts as the round-robin session is proceeding). Each idea (or opportunity) is then identified in turn and recorded on a flip chart or board by the NGT facilitator, leaving ample space between ideas for comments or clarification. This process continues until all the opportunities have been recorded, clarified, and displayed for all to see. At this point a voting procedure is used to prioritise the ideas or opportunities. Finally, voting results lead to the development of group consensus on the topic being addressed.

got the dean's list

yupz, i've gotten into the dean's list again, together with chen peng. was kinda surprised that a few others din managed to get SAP 5. probably cos their 6th module is difficult to score bah... for me, i s/u the 6th module, so my dean's is kinda "cheated" back one oso... haha...

anyway, i posted a wrong info yesterday. that friend of mine DIN get 5A+s... she got 4A+s... but is still pretty cool. =P

a close friend of mine smsed and asked me a weird question juz now... hmm... dunnoe what happened. she din tell me the facts. guess after a while she will contact me again (cos she has to, due to the nature of her question and my answers... hahaha), then i will ask her for more details.

and, i wonder why my shoutbox actually went down. went to the main site, and itz own shoutbox is oso down... crap... nmd abt that. guess it will be back in shape pretty soon.

as for my day, had a pretty boring QE lecture. but is anticipating my prob models to be a difficult module again... even the prof herself said itz not going to be easy... best... think i made a very good decision of taking 5 mods this sem.

start of the new term (sem 4)

Poh Kim Leng, Engineering Economy Lecturer Posted by Hello

First day in school, pretty zuo bo. The above is my Engineering Economy lecturer, oso one of the talk cock kia... to quote,
"Some of u ask me if it is worth it to buy textbook. Well, this is a decision u all have to make. U all gotta see and do some forecasting, and make an optimal solution. This module is abt measuring benefits and cost, and if u think the benefits of buying a textbook is much higher than cost, then u can decide to buy textbook."
(press for next slide of powerpoint)

big big on the screen it says,

"EXAM: OPEN BOOK, MID-TERM TEST I: OPEN-BOOK, MID-TERM TEST II: OPEN BOOK"

"By the way, I might test things outside from your notes...."

.....

na bei.... textbook cost $39.... bought it already....

okay. think i can start mugging tml liaoz. did a count on this sem's workload. not too bad, i will be kept busy.5 modules, 7 midterm tests, 3 projects, and of cos, 5 exams one after another to end it off.

shiok.

(some updates: i heard one of my classmates got 5A+s and 1A- last sem... ISE is full of crouching tigers and hidden dragons man... exciting!!)

forgot to add xianghong's quote

yeah... "Consonance is like a cockroach. Whenever we seems to be dying, we juz wun die. Somehow, we will juz spring back, and continue fighting. Consonance juz wun die."

nice one there... i like it very much in fact... i think itz really an apt description. yeah, consonance wun die!

nice AGM and gathering today

just had the COSONANCE AGM /gathering juz now at zicong's place... i m full to the MAX man... itz 2:16am in the morning liaoz and i am still feeling my stomach bloating... hooo~~

personally, i like this gathering a lot... i find warmth, unity, laughter, and many noises... everyone get to say smthing, express smthing (although only good things lah...but hey! thatz why itz good!! =P) which is good. all these are impt x-factors in a gathering, and i find all these are present juz now...

and there is smthing which i forgot to mention juz now when i was asked to say smthing... suddenly gotta talk i very blur lah... i m not the kind that can immediately think on the spot and say smthing one, esp when itz talking to a crowd.

anyway, i've nvr publicly and openly thank the working grp that has gone thru so much with me and the rest in the route to setting up CONSONANCE... but i've always wanted to...

HERE, I SINCERELY THANK EVERYONE FOR EVERYTHING U ALL HAVE DONE FOR CONSONANCE, ESP TO THE WORKING GROUP THAT I FELT HAD WENT THROUGH THE MOST AND TOLERATED MOST DOWN AND DULL TIME...

THANK YOU...

maybe next time, when i m free, i might type some stories abt consonance, how it actually started, working grp's stuffs, musical synergy, cadenza III, things like mdis, problems etc... but one thing for sure is, i've forgotten quite a bit of details liaoz... hahahahahah =P

added more pictures

added more pictures to the database for random load... i will probably leave the space above juz for consonance's pictures... unless i've learnt how to change the captions along with the pictures, which wun be any time soon... probably even after my interest on blog design wears out... haha

have to find another server to host audio files. then i can do up the playlist...

got the random picture load going...

woohooo!!! i've managed to get the random picture loads on each different visit to this blog going!! click "F5" to see a new picture!! a total of 5 pics available right now.... will do more of it when i have the time =)

there are other possible options instead of doing the random pic loadings, such as switching images while u are on the site.... but i prefer random pic loading... it gives surprises to visitors. i might do up a smaller pix gallery next time on the side bar though. that wld be pretty neat too!

i'm left with only integrating a audio software and playlist to this blog to go... see if i m able to find some help on this... if so, i might be able to get it up on sunday, juz before my new sem in nus officially starts. wun have time to do anything tml, since i m going out with boon liang and lots, and attending the AGM in the evening... probably be out after a while i wake up (prob waking up in the noon), and be back at home midnight...

anyway, probably i sound stupid to someone versed in javascript and html... cos doing all the stuffs i've mentioned isn't really that tough... but hey! i've started staring html codes 2 days ago! heh heh heh....

gotta sleep now. itz going to be 3am in the morning... got scolded my mother juz now, but i shoo her off... =P

another couple in ISE

woo... heard that there is another couple in ISE. in fact, itz been confirmed by the party involved.

Weizhi and Chen Juan is officially together liaoz.... *claps*

okay, anyway, i m more or less done with the designs... the rest of the things that i want to do, are things that i dunnoe how to do at all... but nmd, itz not impt. i like the overall design, and thatz enuff... BUT!!! if u peepz feels tat there is smthing else i can improve on, do leave me a comment, or a msg in the shoutbox, i will consider ur views and see if it fits mine too. if so, then i will TRY to make the necessary arrangment, if itz within my means.

did learn quite a few things in setting up this blog and designs...which is really what i want. so i m happy!!

tml is Consonance's AGM...hmm...wld i kanna anything? i think so... haha... nmd, i'm already prepared for it. thatz why i chose to do 5 modules this sem... 5 mods is siong enuff for me anyway

before the meeting, will be joining boon liang and some of the rest for some CS... very long nvr play liaoz... confirm kanna "jiak" until jiat lat jiat lat... nmd lah... i like boon liang's initiative, so i shall not disappoint him by not turning up. anyway i m free. hahaha....

itz time to let others know abt this blog site liaoz.

need to install some softwares to help myself

hmmm... i think i need to install adobe photoshop, or corel draw into my laptop to do some photos editing. otherwise, there is no way i can put up other pictures if the size dun fit. wanted to paste other pictures onto the template juz now, but i realised i have no useful editor to help me readjust the size etc...

and probably i need to install microsoft frontpage... heard that itz pretty useful and helpful with html stuff... bor bian, i guessed i have to "cheat" since i dunnoe any html codes...

further additions i wld like to make is:
1) randomise pictures shown on every different load on the webpage (dunnoe how to do yet)
2) integrate some media player onto the blog, so that i can make a playlist
3) maybe do smthing to the background...wld still leave it as a generally black theme... but plain black without shades of greys for design looks a bit too dull

Thursday, January 06, 2005

more or less done...

been online for whole day...touching up this blog here and there...pretty proud of my effort!! haha...

more or less done...added "time goes by" to the background music....actually not what i really wanted...i wld love to be able to make a playlist, instead of juz having a single midi playing in the background all the time. at least give pple some choices mah, right? but right now, i have no ideas on how to go abt doing that....

added some other "features" around. like an annoucement column, though i have nothing to announce at this period of time...was thinking actually to put a column for "impt dates to remember" and list dates such as my reservist period, exam dates etc there, but oh wellz, nmd abt that for the moment.

next time, gotta learn how to integrate audio software, so that i can generate a playlist. and add some pictures to this site, and maybe learn how to randomly generate a picture to be shown on the blog on each visits. but before that, i gotta find a free server to host pictures. and i gotta learn how to do the coding too...which might be a long time away...probably might ask Joyce for advices bah... heh...

i might put up some links next time

anyway heard that Chen Peng oso got SAP 5. cool!! expected one lah anyway.

staring at html codes

dun like the tiny font size at all... a little too small... while the "small" font size looks a little too big... oh wellz... hack it.... i have little knowledge on how i might possible change this... sianz

been staring at the html codes juz now, other than chatting on msn. at first, was really bewildered with all the kinds of crap... nothing similar to the 2 comp sci modules i took in nus (C/C++). had a hard time figuring which is which, and adding shoutbox to this blog...

wanted to change the background colour of the shoutbox... but itz not within me since i really dunnoe anything abt html... and i stole some designs from other webpages (haha...hopefully i dun get caught)...when i have more time, then i shall go do some of my own designs...

but at long last, i managed to get some heads and tails on the html codes given... having taken 2 cs modules and acing them do help me to grasp... not possible for me to change the template design but at least i managed to find out how to add certain things with existing materials.... not too bad i guess.... at least i added the shoutbox successfully!!

learnt how to post pictures on this blog too... next time upload some pictures for you all to see bah...

next, i shall go find out how to add tunes to this website... probably i gotta deal with the html codes again... nmd... i can always go to other pple's website and "view source"... thatz how i managed to add the shoutbox anyway, thru trials and errors, thru deciphering "tamil-like" codes.... *sweat*

oh, other than this stupid blog thing, i've also managed to tie down project mates for next sem... si bei sianz... at least 3 projects for next sem.... shack it out baby...

last one before i sleep for today...today is the first day i started this blog though

yeah, just like the title of this post says, this is going to be my last post for the day. the previous 2 posts are made in the same day, rather, actually the same hr too... exploring this thing so made some really rubbish posts to test and try... heh heh

realised i can save posts as drafts... so maybe when i want to type smthing that is not meant for anyone to see i can put it up there bah... then when it gets old enuff i can juz post it... cos i really doubt pple will start to read every posts from scratch... at least i wldn't... itz going to take so much time!! and i m not someone who has a lot of time esp during semestrial term...

i will have to learn how to post pictures, and add some nice midis to this blog when i have the time..... and when i feel like it.... that wld means i need to be hardwking enuff to explore till there bah... this thing is still a novelty to me... so the interests is still there... wait till like 1-2 mths old, i probably wun be giving it a damn anymore... hahahaha

wellz... thatz me anyway

tried keeping diaries (yes, meant it to be plural, u will realised why in 5 seconds), but never succeeded. cos i have really short interest-span... i have like 2-3 diaries in my hse, but all lasted like... less than a mth?? nah... maybe not.... think got last more than 1 year one... but thatz because i placed an entry after like 10-12 mths of blankness... hah... let's see if this will become like that

one reason why i started this blog, other than the sheer urge of wanting to know how this thing works, is because i've been feeling a bit nostagic abt certain things, like my alumni choir consonance, and oso many things has been happening... eg, ask those who stayed back in jiayin's hotel that night and how things eventually unfolded... simply blur diaoz man...

and school's starting... si bei sianz...

and my legs are full of mosquitoes bites....from God-knows-where....

blardee...itchy.....

next time shld learn how to put similies up too...then can act cute...

okay, shall end off here.... and hey! i purposely made this blog in tiny font size too... wanting to see how it looks on my blog... hahaha... *si bei bo liaoz*

exploring blogspots

cool! was attempting to explore various options in blogspots... pretty user friendly, but many things are quite new to me... still a bit blur blur abt some options... probably will explore a little bit further tml when i wake up bah...

this thing might keep me occupied during my mugging days... when i starts to blank out in studying and feel extremely bored... then i can come in and type craps...

or it can serve a purpose for me to write smthing when i m nostagia or when certain feelings within me are aroused bah...

again, privacy is a problem... but nah! who cares... this is named as "all my thoughts" anyway...

anyway, i have pretty poor grammar... never study hard enuff for english when i was younger... wellz... i've never study hard in life before i entered NUS anyway...

First Post

first post...
